What does Stand Up Paddling, Group Fitness Training, and Body Composition Analysis have in common?


How do you lose weight and keep it off for the rest of your life? Answer, eat well and exercise daily. Simple, right? Pretty much. It is no secret that if you ate better and exercised more that you will lose weight. If you are consistent, then you will continue to lose the weight you want. However, the number one reason why many fail is because they are not setting realistic goals and expectations. Here is the secret method we used to help Todd C. lose 60lbs in 6 months.

1) Determine your body fat percentage (a ratio between his lean mass vs. fat mass). We used the most accurate form of Body Fat Percentage at (Link) The Fit Lab to know Todds body better.

2) Develop realistic goals based off YOUR body. We consulted the head trainer at The Fit Lab and came up with short term goals to make it easier to lose the ultimate goal of 60lbs.

3) Develop an appropriate exercise plan. Todd had personal training at The Fit Lab and did cardio work at Paddle Synergy.

4) Develop an ideal nutrition plan based on the body composition results. Nutrition is key. Due to Todds busy life we went to The Meal Prep Company to provide custom meals for Todd.

5) Have fun! Find an exercise you love and incorporate it once a week. Todd would do Stand Up Paddling once a week with his family.

Now is it possible to get to your goals without measuring your body composition? Absolutely! Making subtle lifestyle changes can make the most dramatic effect. If you don’t workout, start by walking 30 minutes a day. If you drink six beers or need to eat cake, drink three beers and only eat one slice. However, if you find yourself hitting a plateau with your weight or unable to stick to your program, there is a good chance you are probably not setting realistic expectations. The best and easiest way to learn is to measure your body composition.

Join and/or train with the West Coast Paddle Gliders racing team! San Diego’s one and only Training program designed for both Stand Up Paddling and single/tandem Outrigger Canoe.


Our mission is to provide paddlers of all ages an environment in where they are provided instructor lead programming to help further develop confidence in one’s ability, a better understanding of the fundamentals of paddling and be part of a community that promotes proper sportsmanship conduct and environmental awareness.

 Group workouts lead by instructor designed for all ages and experience levels (10yrs old to Adult)

  • Get Coached by one of San Diego’s premiere paddling coaches

  • Get a chance to understand body mechanics and proper technique in regards to the paddle stroke

  • Receive weekly/monthly on and off the water training plans (will cater to specific needs/goals)

  • Learn racing tactics/strategy

  • Learn to paddle various other watercraft such as Stand Up Paddle boards and Outrigger Canoes!

  • Learn Land/Water navigation

  • Learn leadership skills that will transcend outside the sport of paddling

  • Be part of a team and community

  • Build confidence and conditioning through a comprehensive training plan for both youths and adults

  • Take your paddling to a whole new level…or just enjoy it that much more!

  • Hours of operation are currently, Tuesday and Thursday at 4pm to 6pm and on Saturdays at 9am to 12pm

  • Adult program is held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5pm to 6:30pm

    • Adults are welcome to participate on Tues/Thur/Saturday practices but will need to bring their own craft

  • Outrigger Canoes and Stand UP paddle boards can be rented out for use based on availability.
