Amazing benefits of CBD for runners
by Hemp Daddy
If you have been running for any length of time, you will know that training often doesn’t go as planned. We get injured, sick, or lose motivation at times. What if there was a way you could stay healthier, avoid injury, and even stay motivated? This isn’t a magic pill, although there is a pill format! The answer you are looking for just might be CBD oil. CBD isn’t benefiting just runners either, it’s helping athletes from all disciplines. Lets take a look at how CBD oil can help athletes, especially runners.
How CBD can improve your running
Fights Pain & Inflammation
CBD is a powerful anti-inflammatory. It has been shown to reduce exercise induced inflammation, and fight pain. Many people are even having success replacing opioids with CBD. If you experience chronic pain from any injury, there is a good chance CBD will help reduce the pain significantly
Reduces Stress and Anxiety
Whether it’s race day jitters or just every day stress and anxiety, CBD can help reduce that. CBD works by interfacing with the body’s own, natural endocannabinoid system(ECS). The ECS is available in just about each cell in the body and manages a large number of our bodies’ capacities, including: appetite, memory, sleep, mood and perception of pain. Stress recuperation is one of the endocannabinoid system’s primary purposes. (source)
CBD’s ability to fight inflammation helps athletes to recover faster, and reduce the pain associated with sore muscles after a strenuous workout. Faster recovery equates to more time training.
CBD has the potential to help overcome injuries. There isn’t a lot of research on this yet, but some anecdotal evidence suggests CBD has lots of potential for acute injuries, and even long term injuries. CBD’s anti inflammatory properties aid in the bodies healing process.
When individuals first start taking CBD one of the first things they notice is better sleep. Sleep translates to faster recovery and more time training. Better sleep also equates to better mood and higher function throughout the day.
One of the benefits of CBD is that it can reduce nausea. Hemp Daddy’s recently had one of its brand ambassadors use CBD oil during a 24 hour race, and for the first time ever she never had any stomach issues during the race. For runners that struggle with keeping food down and have stomach related issues during long runs, CBD just might be the answer.
CBD Won’t CURE Your Injury
As awesome as CBD sounds, it will not CURE your injury. The same protocol for overcoming injury still applies. Rest, physical therapy, and cross training. Even though CBD is amazing and can help speed up the healing process, CBD alone won’t heal an injury. I have personally struggled with chronic achilles tendonitis. CBD helps with the pain, and reducing the inflammation so healing can take place. However, if I’m not careful I can get too aggressive and set myself back from healing. CBD can mask pain, and elevate the mood, so be careful you don’t overdo it on your training.
CBD and THC – Full Spectrum CBD
One thing that is important to note is the importance of using full spectrum CBD, vs a CBD isolate. CBD isolate is exactly how it sounds, it’s ONLY CBD extracted from the plant. Full Spectrum on the other hand still focuses on extracting a large amount of CBD, but also extracts other cannabinoids, including THC. This creates what is known as the entourage effect.
Think of it as an army of cannabis compounds going to work together, vs and army of one. The THC compound is of special importance. A recent study done in Israel compared the effects of full spectrum CBD vs a CBD isolate and found the full spectrum CBD was far more effective in decreasing pain in patients.
CBD holds lots of promise beyond boosting athletic performance. Individuals struggling with a wide variety of issues, such as: epilepsy, anxiety, ADHD, fibromyalgia, arthritis, and much more are finding benefits from CBD, and with the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill more scientific studies will be able to take place.
So far we have only tapped the surface on the potential of this plant. As we learn more about the medicinal benefits of cannabinoid compounds we are likely in for some exciting things, such is isolating specific cannabinoids to target specific ailments.
